Mohammed Abubakari
Mohammed Abubakari joined the Hood College coaching staff in the Summer of 2023.
Coach brings nearly a decade of coaching experience to Frederick. Mohammed most recently coached at Kwame Nkrumah University of Science & Technology in Kumasi, Ghana. A prominent coach in Ghana, Coach’s athletes have gone on to break 4 Ghanaian National Records. Coach’s athletes have represented Ghana at the world stage, having competed in a number of World Championships and Olympic Games.
Mohammed will serve as the lead instructor for all 4 clinics this fall.
Martin Owusu-Antwi
Martin Owusu-Antwi joined the coaching staff at Hood College during the Fall of 2021. During his tenure at Hood, Coach has mentored 8 All-MAC and 4 All-Mid-Atlantic Region honors in the sprints and relays. Last year, the Hood College men shattered the school record in the 4x100m at the Penn Relays, posting a time of 41.82 to win bronze.
Coach has continued his training professionally, running for his home country of Ghana at a number of international competitions. Notably, Martin has ran at the World Championships, Commonwealth Games, and All-African Games. Coach is a former Ghanaian National Record in the indoor 200m dash, running a time of 20.79 in 2018. He competed collegiately at Coppin State University.
Avery Boea-Gisler
Avery Boea-Gisler is new to the Hood College coaching staff, having started during the Summer of 2023. Prior to his time at Hood, Coach served as an Assistant Coach for California University (PA) and for Serra Catholic HS (PA). Avery brings a wealth of knowledge in the realm of sports performance. Having graduated with his Master’s Degree in Exercise Science from Cal U, he also holds certifications through USATF (Level 1), NASE (Certified Level II Speed Specialist), ALTIS (Coaching the Short Sprints), and Exos (Advanced Power and Strength Certification). Along with coaching the hurdlers at Hood, Avery also serves as a Performance Coach with True Athletic Performance.
Coach was a standout athlete during his time at Cal U, having earned 6 All-PSAC honors. He holds personal bests of 53.48 in the 400mH and 49.50 in the 400m.
